Charleston Water System water hardness

Charleston Water System (CWS) draws from two surface water sources: the Edisto River at the Daniel Island Water Treatment Plant and the Bushy Park Reservoir at the Bushy Park Water Treatment Plant. Both are blackwater coastal plain rivers with naturally low total dissolved solids compared to the river systems further north. Grand Strand water hardness: Myrtle Beach, Conway, and the GSWSA service area

The Grand Strand Water and Sewer Authority serves a large geographic area across Horry and Georgetown counties, including Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach, Conway, Surfside Beach, Murrels Inlet, and Pawleys Island. GSWSA draws from the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway at the Bull Creek Water Treatment Plant and from Black Creek aquifer groundwater wells in parts of its service area.

How to read the hardness number in your CCR

Consumer Confidence Reports express hardness in milligrams per liter measured as calcium carbonate (mg/L as CaCO3). Water softeners and treatment equipment capacity ratings use grains per gallon (GPG). The conversion is simple:

mg/L as CaCO3 divided by 17.1 = GPG
